About AlphaBaseline

AlphaBaseline is an independent insight tracker for institutional holdings, built entirely from public SEC Form 13F filings on EDGAR.

What this site does

Every quarter, institutional investment managers with more than $100 million in qualifying assets must disclose their long U.S. equity positions to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Form 13F. These filings are public, but they are published as raw XML, one filing at a time, with no history, no comparison, and no context.

AlphaBaseline follows the 13F filings of about 80 focused, high-conviction institutional investors and turns them into readable portfolios, quarter-over-quarter activity, and an auditable copy-investor backtest.

Why it exists

Most 13F trackers show you what an investor holds. Very few tell you whether following that investor would actually have made you money.

AlphaBaseline’s copy-investor backtest answers that question directly: buy the disclosed equity portfolio after each filing, hold until the next disclosure, then rebalance. The result is a like-for-like comparison across managers, with the arithmetic shown leg-by-leg and downloadable as CSV that reconciles to the published number. We publish the method, not just the result.

What makes it different

Auditable, not just published. Every figure traces back to a public SEC EDGAR filing, and every holding row carries its source accession number. The backtest math is downloadable and reconciles to the number on the page.

Curated, not exhaustive. We track about 80 focused, high-conviction investors rather than every 13F filer. The goal is signal, not coverage.

Honest about limitations. 13F data is disclosed with a lag of up to 45 days after quarter-end, covers only long U.S. equity positions, and excludes cash, bonds, non-U.S. listings, and short positions. We say so on every relevant page. See the data pipeline methodology for the full picture.

Editorial independence

AlphaBaseline is funded by advertising. Advertisers have no influence over which managers we track, how the backtest is computed, or what the rankings show. We do not accept payment to include, exclude, or rank a manager, and we have no business relationship with any manager listed on this site.

We are not affiliated with the SEC, with any market-data provider, or with any manager or fund tracked here. The SEC does not endorse this site.

Not investment advice

Nothing on AlphaBaseline is investment advice or a solicitation. It is a historical, informational view of disclosed institutional holdings and is not a recommendation to buy or sell any security. Position data is at least 45 days old by the time a 13F is filed and may be further out of date due to amendments and reporting lags. Do your own research before acting on anything you see here. See our Terms of use for the full disclaimer.

Corrections

We pull directly from EDGAR but cannot guarantee that every parser path catches every edge case. If you spot an error, the source filing on EDGAR is the canonical record — and we want to know. Email contact@alphabaseline.com and we will investigate. More detail is on the contact page.
